Are Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith splitting up after 13 years of marriage? That's what In Touch Weekly reported on Tuesday. But don't go mourning the Hollywood supercouple's demise just yet. Will, 42, and Jada, 39, have released a statement categorically denying the rumors.
"Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false," the couple said in the statement. "We are still together, and our marriage is intact."
Will's 18-year-old son Trey (from a previous marriage) bit back at the rumors earlier in the day, insisting that his dad and stepmom were still going strong.
"Did #WillandJada split? No they did NOT split! False information ... its not true RETWEET!!!" he twittered early Tuesday afternoon. "Everyone can think what they want ... even if its not true."
Meanwhile, Pinkett-Smith's rep Karynne Tencer seemed quite nonplussed when TMZ woke her up with a call asking for comment. "What? In Touch said that?" the groggy Tencer replied. "I know nothing about this... Lord. I'm going back to bed."
When contacted by People, Tencer refuted rumors that Pinkett-Smith had an affair with her HawthoRNe costar Marc Anthony, who split from wife Jennifer Lopez in July, but declined to comment on her client's marital status. "All the rumors regarding Marc Anthony and Jada are false. Completely untrue," she said. "As for (the reports of a split between) Will and Jada, I'm not commenting on their personal life."
Anthony's rep concurred. "We unequivocally deny this. Enough is enough," said the rep. "There are families involved, children involved, friendships involved. This is NOT true."
Will and Jada first met in 1990 when she auditioned (and was rejected) for the role of Will's girlfriend on the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They were married on New Year's Eve 1997, and have two children together: budding actor-musicians Jayden, 13, and Willow, 10.
And they've both always made a point of saying that they were in their relationship for the long haul. "What I found is divorce just can't be an option," Will told Ellen DeGeneres in 2008. "It's really that simple. And I think that's the problem with L.A. -- there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for (Jada) and I is that we just removed the other options."
"I never thought that I'd be married to anybody, and I surely never thought that I'd be married to anybody as long as I've been married to him," Jada told Good Housekeeping of Will in 2009. "And I plan on being married to him for the rest of my life." Sounds like that's certainly still the case.
